Accounting Payroll Specialist
Remote – East Coast Time Zone

The Accounting Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing using Paylocity. This role requires a strong understanding of payroll regulations and accounting principles. The ideal candidate will be proficient in managing payroll processes specific to government contractors and ensuring full compliance with relevant laws and standards.
Key Responsibilities
· Payroll Processing\: Manage payroll processing for approximately 400 US employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and U.S. government contracting requirements.
· Systems\: Utilize Paylocity HCM for payroll processing and Unanet ERP for time tracking management, ensuring accurate data flow between systems.
· Multi-State Payroll Management\: Administer payroll for employees working in multiple states, ensuring compliance with differing state and local regulations, minimum wage laws, overtime rules, paid leave laws and other requirements.
· Taxes\: Ensure proper setup of employee tax withholdings, including registrations with authorities in relevant jurisdictions including state, city or county income tax, occupational taxes or other location-specific taxes. Track and manage appropriate state unemployment tax rates and contributions based on employee work location.
· Remote Work Compliance\: Monitor remote employee work locations and tax nexus laws including thresholds for income or presence in a state that trigger tax liabilities.
· SCA Compliance\: Manage payroll in accordance with the Service Contract Act (SCA), ensuring proper Wage Determinations and Fringe Benefit calculations for employees working on applicable government contracts.
· Data Entry & Maintenance\: Maintain payroll records, enter variable compensation pay components and related tax withholdings, process new hires, terminations, and payroll adjustments.
· Payroll Reporting\: Prepare payroll and accounting reports, including Certified Payroll reports, SCA Wage and Fringe Benefit reports, quarterly tax filings, year-end summaries, W-2 Forms, audit reports, and labor distribution reports.
· Audit Support\: Assis with audits as needed, ensuring payroll processes and records are compliant with applicable regulations and contract requirements.
· Accounting Support: Work closely with Accounting to complete payroll-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and audit schedules as needed.
· Issue Resolution\: Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and field payroll-related inquiries from employees.
Minimum Qualifications
· 3+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably using Paylocity HCM in a multi-state environment. Experience in new payroll system setups and integrations is preferred, as well as experience working in government contracting environments.
· Solid understanding of payroll best practices in the context of government contracting, including FAR compliance, SCA wage determinations, and fringe benefit calculations.
· Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles, including payroll-related general ledger postings and reconciliations.
· Ability to work independently and resolve payroll issues quickly and efficiently.
· Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll and government contracting matters to non-financial professionals.
· Payroll certifications such as CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or government contracting certifications are a plus, but not required.
